The Marché du Midi is Brussels' largest food
market near Gare du Midi (Station Zuid), mostly Moroccan and
North African style market, said to be the biggest
market in Europe. All nationalities are represented
here and they also have products you will not find at an
ordinary market: colorful fresh fruit, vegetables, baskets
full of fresh olives, mint tea, dried fish, Greek pastries,
all kinds of herbs, especially exotic North African and
Mediterranean spices, cheeses, Moroccan crêpes with cheese,
meat (not kosher), clothing, leather goods and what's not.
The vegetables look bigger and fresher than they usually do.
The
stalls are colorful and the foodstuffs look very tasty. In
some parts it is kind of hectic with all the stallholders
yelling the prices of products to the passers-by.
It's not all perishable produce - visitors can
also shop for plants, shoes and clothes as well as some
fantastic North African music buys. |
