Elizabeth Salthouse Daniels, Birth: 4 Mar 1793,

Manchester, England, Death: 26 Jan 1865 (aged

Israel Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA.
Burial of other family members shows doubts in her Jewish
roots.
Her husband was buried in a church yard in England. Her
baby daughter wad cremated in England, and her baby boy
was buried at that church yard in England. It looks like
the husband of her 3rd daughter,
John Weinel, immigrated from Germany, and had a Jewish
surname. It looks like the first Jewish Burial in this
cemetery was of
Abraham S Eisenberg, Birth: 22 Mar 1840, Death: 20 Jul
1867 (aged 27), Burial: BNai Israel Cemetery,
Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah, USA, in the land that
was deeded in 1866, according to
Ralph M. Tannenbaum. Merger between Congregation B'nai
Israel and Congregation Montefiore in 1973 -

Salt Lake City was founded in 1847. First
B'nai Brith lodge established in SLC in 1892.
Statehood of Utah Officially granted in
January 4, 1896.
According to
Ralph M. Tannenbaum (1921 - 2006) in
Find A Grave, The Hebrew Benevolent Society of Salt Lake
City, Utah, was formed in 1864 and was the
first instance of organized Judaism in Utah. Religious
services were held in the rented Masonic Hall in the spring of
1866. This same year saw the
first cemetery,
on land deeded to the Jewish community by
Brigham Young.
According to Tannenbaum in
Find A Grave, The first formal Jewish congregation was
established in 1873 with the name
Congregation Bnai Israel (Children of Israel).
However, the articles of incorporation for the congregation
were not filed until 1881.
There was a rift between congregants over which Jewish
ritual to adopt. Congregation B'nai Israel adopted the Reform
movement, and a new synagogue started to organize -
Congregation Montefiore, with a dedicated cornerstone in
August 1903 (Conservative).
A third group established a new congregation - Shaarey
Tzedek, in 1918 (Orthodox). It was closed in
1932.
In 1973
Congregation B'nai Israel and Montefiore merged to form
Congregation Kol Ami.
