Celebrating three quarters of a century of Jewish community

WHO WE ARE: We are a small but very active Congregation, not affiliated with any of the main ethnic or ideological orientations in contemporary Judaism; we strive to find a “Golden Path” in the practice of our faith, away from both extremes, be they liberalizing or restrictive.    

SYNAGOGUE: Our rituals are conducted in a traditional fashion, mostly in Hebrew; we do not use a PA system; although our Temple does not have a Mehitza (partition) we abide by separate seating; we have a Minyan for Kabalat Shabat (Eve of Sabath) and Thursday mornings. Anniversary (yahrzeit) and other special occasions of the Jewish Life Cycle are observed.  Guests are welcome to all our Services (for the High Holidays Services reservations are required).    

EDUCATION: We operate an After School Jewish Education program (Machon Yeladim) for the different age groups up to age twelve. We meticulously prepare our boys and girls for their Bar/Bat Mitzvah. We have educational activities designed for the upper High School level.

MIKVAH: we are in the planning stages for the construction of our Mikvah (ritual bath) which we expect to have ready by the end of 2007.

CULTURAL ACTIVITIES:  We commemorate each date of the Jewish Calendar.  We have various weekly evening classes for our members (Torah, Kabalah, etc). We periodically have Communal Shabat and Holidays dinners, cinema screenings and lecturers.

TZEDAKAH (CHARITY): We care for the indigent, striving to respect their dignity. We cooperate with programs for the education of needy children in the city. 

CEMETERY: For over sixty years we have been maintaining a well kept Cemetery, conveniently located within the urban area of the City.

MORTUARY (Hevrah Kadisha): With respect, and according to Tradition, we efficiently perform the Jewish duties in this special moment. We handle the official requirements for the repatriation of the remains of Jews that are to be interred in other countries.  

KOSHER:  Since only a limited variety of Kosher labeled food items is commercially available in the country, we periodically (6 times a year) import Kosher meats from Florida.

KOSHER CERTIFICATION: We represent one of the leading international Kosher Certification institutions and serve the Dominican food export industrial sector.     

CARIBBEAN WEDDINGS-BAR/BAT MITZVAH: We assist Jewish tourists in their quest for the celebration of these happy events, in coordination with the appropriate officers at the resorts of their choice.

CONMEMORANDO TRES CUARTOS DE SIGLO DE CONTINUIDAD JUDÍA

QUIENES SOMOS: Somos una pequeña pero muy activa Comunidad, no afiliada con ninguna de las principales corrientes étnicas o ideológicas del Judaísmo contemporáneo; nos esforzamos por encontrar la “Senda Dorada” en la práctica de nuestra fe, lejos de ambos extremos, tanto el liberalizador como el restrictivo.  

SINAGOGA: Conducimos nuestros Servicios Religiosos de un modo tradicional, oficiándolos mayoritariamente en Hebreo; no se utiliza micrófono; aun cuando el recinto no tiene Mehitzá, (partición) mantenemos acomodación separada; tenemos Minyán de Kabalat Shabat  (víspera del Sabado)y los jueves en las mañanas. Se ofician rezos de aniversario (Yoahrzeit) y observamos las diversas ocasiones del Ciclo Judío  de la Vida. Damos la bienvenida a huéspedes a todos nuestros Servicios (Para las Altas Festividades se requiere reservación).

EDUCACIÓN: Operamos un Programa de Educación Judía (Majón Yeladim) para infantes en varios grupos de edad, hasta los doce años. Preparamos meticulosamente a los adolescentes para su Bar-Bat Mitzvá. Tenemos actividades educativas para los jóvenes preuniversitarios.

MIKVÉ: Estamos en la etapa de planeación para le construcción de nuestro Mikvé (baño ritua), el  que esperamos tener terminado para fines de 2007.

ACTIVIDADES CULTURALES: Celebramos cada fecha del Calendario Judío. Ofrecemos semanalmente charlas nocturnas para nuestros Miembros (Pentatéuco, Kabalá, etc.). Periódicamente realizamos cenas Comunitarias de Shabat o Festividades, presentación de películas y conferencistas.

TZEDAKÁ (CARIDAD): Atendemos a los indigentes, procurando defender su dignidad. Cooperamos con la educación de la niñez necesitada de la Ciudad.

CEMENTERIO: Por más de sesenta años hemos mantenido un bien cuidado Cementerio, convenientemente ubicado dentro del área metropolitana.

FUNERALES (Hevra Kadisha): Con respeto por nuestra Tradición realizamos eficientemente las tareas de esos momentos especiales. Procesamos diligentemente los trámites oficiales requeridos para la repatriación de los restos de Judíos que serán inhumados en otros países.

KASHER: Debido a que en el País es limitada la oferta comercial de alimentos con sello Kasher, nosotros periódicamente (seis veces al año) importamos carnes Kasher de la Florida.

CERTIFICACIÓN KASHER: Representamos a una de las más reconocidas instituciones internacionales de Certificación de Kasher  y ofrecemos ese servicio a la industria Dominicana exportadora de alimentos.
