...After the arrests and expropriations of Jewish people
from Salzburg immediately after the “Anschluss”, the pogrom
night of November 9, 1938 to November 10, 1938 left the most lasting
impression. Shops that had not yet been Aryanised and the
furnishings of the synagogue were demolished. Jewish property was
also damaged in Hallein and Bad Gastein . According to reports from
those affected, the SS brutally broke into apartments and arrested
around 70 men who were deported to Dachau. Women and children were
left alone. All Jews who remained in Salzburg were forced to move to
Vienna, and their apartments were confiscated. November 12th In 1938
Salzburg was declared “Jew-free”. Salzburg was never really
“Jew-free”. In 1939 , Jewish forced laborers were still used to
build the Tauern power station in Kaprun , and some Jews were also
able to hide successfully or survive through their "mixed marriage".
