  The original congregation K.K. Neveh Shalom was formed in Spanish Town Jamaica after the great earthquake destroyed Port Royal on June 6, 1692. The synagogue was built and finished in 1704 shortly after the Bevis Marks synagogue in east London, England. The building was destroyed on January 14, 1907 by an earthquake. The Institute has been created to undertake the archaeological excavations and possible recreation of this site.

• Presently these are mainly conducted by Stephen Henriques henriques@kasnet.com who is a licensed marriage officer. He is permitted to conduct Jewish wedding ceremonies providing the Wardens of the United Congregation of Israelites are satisfied that the participants are members of recognized Jewish congregations. It is also necessary that the participants satisfy the civil requirements needed to perform the civil marriage ceremony and to obtain the marriage licence.
  By proper prior arrangement weddings may be conducted at the Island's many resort hotels.

  Affiliation: members of the Latin American and Caribbean Association of Jewish Congregations. This UJCL hold annual meetings in one or other of the member countries.

  Our rituals are taken from the Gaster Prayer book from Bevis Marks though today we publish our own of these prayers, much of it in English. It is primarily a Sephardic ritual.
