Jews stand between 85 to 100 thousand people, depending
who counts and who is considered a Jew. We believe 10% of our
society is frum. Most live in São Paulo city, where you will find
several Shuls, Colelim, Batei Midrashot, Two yeshivot for men and
one for women. Our frum life is located mainly in Higienopolis
(half and half ashkenazi and Sephardic) and Jardins (mostly
ashkenazy). Some still live in Bom Retiro, our old Jewish area. We
have two big Sephardic Shuls in Higienopolis (mostly Syrian and
Lebanese Jews), a huge Mizrachi shul, two Ashkenazy, three Kiruv
centers and one shul specialized in Sofrut (Beit Hasofer), beside Chabad
houses all over the city. In Jardins area we can find a big
Ashkenazy Shul and Colel (Yavne), Central Chabad House and a
Chassidish shtibalach and Colel (Rabbi Yilowitz). Many
of them has both man and woman Mikvaot.
Our Jewish
life is intense: daily tefilot, shiurim, all Jewish
celebrations, kiruv events, lectures, seminara, shabatonim for
youth and families, weddings, britot, bar and bat mitsvot and the
most important, a strong Jewish identity with Torah and Israel,
each according to his Shitah.
We have
the largest J.C.C. in the world, which has a kosher
restaurant and a vast green area.
There are
good hotels and kosher restaurants in all Jewish areas. Those
interested in Kosher tourism in Brazil can find Jewish guides
and more information on www.jewishbrazil.com
