Tefillin
How to grade a tefillin:
There are several parameters that dictate the grade of a tefillin to be less or
more “mehudar” (higher quality).
* The scroll – the better the writing or the leather, the better the
tefillin.
* The boxes (Batim) leather – Dakot (thin) - the leather is from ship, Gasot (thick)
- the leather is from an ox or a cow. Tefillin Gasot is
considered to be higher in quality.
* The boxes (Batim) structure – The boxes that contain the scrolls may be of one or more
pieces. One piece is best. In Hebrew it’s called “or echad” (one leather).
There are other parameters such as quality of scroll, type of quality
control (hagahah).
All scrolls we sell pass
inspection by a computer (Mishmeret Stam) and by a certified inspector (to check
safek otiot).
